Border agent, 8 passengers injured as truck overturns

SAN DIEGO — A Border Patrol agent and eight suspected illegal immigrants suffered minor injuries when the agent's truck overturned Thursday night about 40 miles east of San Diego, a patrol spokesman said.

The accident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Kitchen Creek Road south of the Sunrise Highway to Mount Laguna, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agent, driving through the Cleveland National Forest, was transporting the eight detainees to a Border Patrol station when he swerved to avoid hitting a mountain lion, an agency spokesman said Friday. The truck rolled and came to a stop upside down.

The agent and the eight detainees were evaluated for injuries at a hospital. No one was seriously hurt, the spokesman said.

Minutemen Uncover Power Cutting Tool

As a group of Minutemen approached 143, they observed a man, south of the wall, look at them and begin running farther south.

The Minutemen looked over the wall at where the man had been to discover a power metal cutting tool. Its location was reported to the Border Patrol.

Observe and Report Update

Independent Minuteman Granny Goose reported a group of four illegal border crossers near the 94 and Otay Lakes Road.

Kingfish observed a group of 15 for several hours today. At one point they turned back south. Not known at this time if they attempted another crossing.

Border Update 10 + 3 Appended Today

Kingfish, working with Independent Minuteman Granny Goose, and using skills learned at the Border Patrol Citizen Academy discovered a trail that illegal border crossers had tried to erase.

The group, of ten illegal border crossers, was later apprehended by the Border Patrol.

At dusk, a group of three were appended, with back packs near 147.
