EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Security is being heightened along the southern U.S. border because of a threat that warring Mexican cartels may send hit men into the United States, authorities said Monday.

Law enforcement officials would not discuss specific security measures being taken at the ports of entry, along the border or in the city of El Paso.

"We received credible information that drug cartels in Mexico have given permission to hit targets on the U.S. side of the border," El Paso police spokesman Officer Chris Mears said.

Authorities learned of the threat last week.

"We want to hear that somebody thinks the integrity of the national boundaries is meaningful and necessary," said Britt Craig, 59, a Mission Viejo resident with the Campo Minutemen who spends four or five days a week patrolling the border. "I don't think we're going to hear it from either one of them."

More than 100 anti-illegal immigration activists and Minutemen members will rally with specific demands: to free former Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean and to withhold federal funding to sanctuary cities.

"We would like the next president to make the commitment to examine the case, to pardon them because we feel their whole situation is a miscarriage of justice," said Deborah Craig with Campo Minutemen.

Suspected Smuggler Rams Border Patrol Car Near San Diego

Agents Suffer Minor InjuriesOfficials said two Border Patrol agents were injured after a suspected human smuggler rammed his SUV into their patrol car near San Diego over the weekend.

It happened Saturday around 9 p.m. along Ivanhoe Ranch Road in Jamul, Calif.According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, the agents attempted to stop a Jeep Grand Cherokee they suspected was transporting illegal immigrants. A short time later, the agents spotted the SUV parked on the shoulder of Ivanhoe Ranch Road with its headlights off. As the agents approached the vehicle, officials said the SUV rammed head-on into the agents' patrol car. The driver then reversed the SUV and crashed into the agents a second time, disabling both vehicles. The agents were able to apprehend eight male Mexican nationals illegally in the U.S. inside the Jeep Cherokee, officials said. Report From Gaget Dan

Thursday night (July 31st.) around 8:30PM, after repairing damaged range fence North of the Border Rd, and, approximately 150 yards East of the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) Monument.

I drove my vehicle to the PCT monument and parked. While watching the Border from this location, I noticed a group of POI's (persons of interest) staging , approximately 150 to 200 yards South of the metal vehicle barrier. Once they started moving (in single file fashion) Northbound towards the Border /metal vehicle barrier, I called the Border Patrol to give their location and numbers. Shortly there after, I left for the night. The information I provided to the Border Patrol prior to leaving the Border was helpful in the apprehension of seven (7) POI's North of the Border / PCT location later in the night.

Three cheers for the good guys! Rise and shine America, it's wake up time! Dan

Agent Held at Gunpoint by Mexican Military

Agent Held at Gunpoint by Mexican Military

8-3-08 A Tucson Sector Border Patrol agent was held at gunpoint by the Mexican military last night south of Ajo. Mexican military personnel crossed over the border and pointed rifles at him. Backup units arrived from the Ajo Border Patrol station, and the Mexican military personnel eventually returned to Mexico. Unfortunately, this sort of behavior by Mexican military personnel has been going on for years. They are never held accountable, and the United States government will undoubtedly brush this off as another case of "Oh well, they didn't know they were in the United States." A few years ago the Mexican military went a step further and put a .50 calibre rifle round through the rear window of a Border Patrol agent's patrol vehicle south of Ajo. Nothing was ever done. Nobody was ever held accountable. Particularly galling is the fact that the Mexican military often pulls these stunts in Humvees donated to them by the American taxpayers (although they were apparently on foot this time). We note that Border Patrol agents have historically driven worn-out, junk vehicles.
We will withhold further comment on this incident until we see how our leaders handle it. We don't have much confidence in most of them.
It is fortunate that this incident didn't end in a very ugly gunfight.
